Job Title: Youth Employment Program Coordinator
Project Summary:
This is a tri-territorial youth employment project designed to address the current barriers youth are facing entering the workforce or maintaining employment. The goal of the project is to build capacity, confidence and sense of self for all participants. It has been directed at those marginalized youth facing personal and systematic barriers when trying to enter the workforce and builds these foundational elements for success through non-formal and culturally relevant programming.
Job Summary:
This position will be responsible for developing and delivering youth employment programs. This position will work alongside the tri-territorial team to design and facilitate engaging programming geared towards enhancing essential employable skills. They will also be responsible for helping participants secure work placements and bridge the gap between the employer and the participant.
Reports to: Program Manager and Director of Operations
Duties:
- Directly communicate with project manager about project activities, calendars and deliverables.
- Attend Tri-territorial meetings and communicate with team about youth employment programming.
- Develop and deliver content for three, YESS cohorts under the direction of the Project Manager.
- Arrange Job placements and job coach for cohort participants.
- Collect and ensure all evaluation materials from programming is completed to the standards and requirements laid out by the project evaluator for reporting.
- Recruit youth to participate in program cohorts.
- Assist in the daily activities and operations of the YLC projects under the direction of the Executive Director.
- Assist with operation of YLC Learning Garden.
- Attend youth symposiums and gatherings to promote program.
- Assist with other YLC initiatives
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of community services and resources for referrals and partnerships.
- Strong communication skills.
- Self-directed and independent worker with the ability to take direction and feedback.
- Works well under pressure while demonstrating effective leadership, adaptability and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, listening and writing skills.
- Proficient in computer skills and software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, email, Adobe etc.)
- Able to maintain confidentiality of clients.
- Able to lift and carry 30lbs.
Required Training and Experience
- Post-Secondary degree in Education, and/or a related field.
- Experience in program development.
- Experience working with youth.
- Presentation and facilitation experience.
- Yukon First Nations 101, or willingness to obtain.
- Trauma Informed Care, or willingness to obtain.
- Diverse work background and interests an asset.
Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations:
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Valid Yukon Driver’s license
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
