About Us
Kita Japanese Kitchen + Bar is a Japanese restaurant in Whitehorse offering sushi and Japanese cuisine. We are currently seeking a reliable and experienced Sushi Preparer / Kitchen Helper to support daily kitchen operations and food preparation.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare sushi ingredients including washing, cutting, slicing, and portioning fish, vegetables, and other ingredients
- Assist with sushi preparation tasks such as preparing sushi rice, assembling basic rolls, and plating under supervision
- Perform general kitchen helper duties including food preparation, cleaning, and organizing workstations
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils in accordance with food safety standards
- Assist with inventory handling, including receiving and storing supplies
- Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient food preparation
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures
- Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- Minimum 6 months of experience working as a sushi preparer, or in a similar food preparation role
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced setting
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work well in a team
- No formal education required
- Basic English communication skills are sufficient
Additional Requirements
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of hire.
Candidates must be available to work on-site in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Work Conditions
- Full-time employment at 40 hours per week
- Shift work including evenings, weekends, and holidays
