Second Stage Coordinator Days of work: Monday- Friday 12pm-8pm
Position Summary
As a member of the Transition Home staff, the Second Stage Coordinator (SSC) will provide information, support, advocacy, and accompaniment to women and children living in the Second Stage Program at the Kaushee’s Place. She will assist residents in making the shift from Transition Level to semi-independent living in Second Stage. She will meet regularly with Second Stage residents to offer support as well as assist residents in identifying steps to facilitate the transition from Second Stage to fully independent living away from the Transition Home. The SSC will support clients in gaining the knowledge, skills, and confidence to feel secure in moving on from Kaushee’s Place. She may help clients develop a self-directed action plan that can be followed up by other Transition Home workers. She will facilitate Second Stage group meetings or other activities as requested by residents or management of the Transition Home. The SSC will perform client-based administrative tasks, and participate in maintaining effective and positive relations with other agencies.
As a team member of the Transition Home, she will work with other staff to ensure consistent delivery of Transition Home services. She will act as a liaison between the Transition Home and other service providers and agencies to provide information and awareness of violence against women. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides supportive listening, appropriate referrals, accompaniment, and advocacy to women,, gender diverse people where requested.
  • Provides appropriate information on rights and options to assist women in making informed choices.
  • Provides information on the dynamics, causes, and responses to family violence
  • Identifies and addresses systemic and other barriers to services faced by women and gender diverse people in abusive situations, providing a social analysis if appropriate
  • Uses non-judgemental peer counseling and support to assist women to identify and explore their experiences, feelings, issues, and concerns
  • Adheres to the Transition Home Code of Ethics and ensures that transition home policies and procedures, protocols, and guidelines are implemented and followed
  • Meets with applicants to the Second Stage Program to determine suitability and provide clients with information regarding Second Stage.
  • Offers assistance with life skills to enhance women’s self-empowerment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of woman assault and other forms of violence against women, including causes, dynamics, responses, and impacts.
  • General knowledge of community agencies and resources related to family violence.
  • Peer counseling skills.
  • Excellent verbal and good written communications skills.
  • Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Ability to solve problems and exercise good judgement in stressful situations.
  • Ability to mediate conflict.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and group activities.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment, to set priorities, and to deliver services and organize time and tasks with other staff members.
  • Ability to respond effectively to crisis calls and crisis situations, and to call in support when required.
  • Ability to work effectively with the RCMP and other departments/agencies that deliver services related to family violence.

Wage, shift premium and generous benefit package as per the Collective Agreement. Opportunity to pick up additional shifts and apply for other positions.
