RECREATION DIRECTOR
Permanent Part-Time Position (24 – 32 hours/week)
ABOUT TAGISH
Tagish is a vibrant rural community of approximately 350 residents located along the Six Mile River and the shores of beautiful Tagish Lake in the Yukon. The Tagish Community Association (TCA) is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization that brings people together through recreation, culture, wellness, and community events. Following the loss of the Community Centre to a fire in 2025, TCA is entering an exciting rebuilding phase focused on strengthening programs, supporting community connection, and shaping the future of recreation in Tagish. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact in a close-knit northern community.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Recreation Director leads community recreation programming and supports the day-to-day administrative and operational activities of the Tagish Community Association. Reporting to the Tagish Community Association Board through the Board President (or designated Board liaison), the Recreation Director works collaboratively with volunteers, community partners, and residents to deliver inclusive, engaging, and accessible programs for all ages.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, coordinate, and deliver recreational, wellness, cultural, and community programs
Support community events such as dinners, festivals, youth activities, and seasonal celebrations
Promote programs through newsletters, social media, and community communications
Recruit, support, and recognize volunteers
Build partnerships with local organizations, First Nations, and community groups
Support administrative operations including budgeting assistance and grant reporting
Coordinate facility use, rentals, and event logistics
Provide supervision to recreation staff and program facilitators
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Experience coordinating recreation, community, or cultural programming
Experience working in a non-profit or community organization
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Experience working with volunteers and community partners
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Experience working in cross-cultural environments; knowledge of Yukon or First Nations communities considered an asset
Grant administration or event coordination experience considered an asset

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Permanent part-time position (24–32 hours per week) with occasional evening and weekend work required. Compensation ranges from $30–$35 per hour depending on experience, plus a Northern Travel Benefit of $1,000 annually. Flexible scheduling within operational needs and meaningful work contributing directly to community well-being.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check within 60 days of hire
Obtain Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification within 4 months of hire
Obtain Food Safe Level 1 certification within 4 months of hire
Course fees will be reimbursed upon successful completion
