Dusk’a Head Start Family Learning Centre is seeking qualified Level 2 or 3 Early Childhood Educators to join their awesome team on an on-call basis. Hours range from 7-35 per week with the opportunity to become permanent.
We are looking for contributing individuals to add to and enhance programming at Dusk’a. If you love working with children 18 months to 5 years of age, are compassionate, kind and truly enjoy working with young children, we would love to hear from you! Cultural programming is delivered in our Centre and daily meals and snacks are provided to children by the in-house cook in our kitchen facility.
Our Centre provides a holistic service, folding families/caregivers into the child development process while responding to special and individual child development needs, and building a strong sense of place, belonging and self-identity with respect to language and culture. The core program for the Centre is based on the Aboriginal Head Start Program with an emphasis on integrated early learning focused on whole family learning, aboriginal language and culture, and support for individual and special needs.
Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.
- Level 2 or Level 3 Early Childhood Education designation;
- Recent successful experience working in a child care setting with children 18 months – 5 years of age;
- Experience working in a First Nations’ early learning setting, or First Nations’ cultural capacity would be an asset;
- Experience planning, developing, and implementing a variety of recreational, social, life skill and parenting programming and activities relevant to First Nation children which meet group and individual needs;
- Strong interpersonal skills including teamwork;
- Strong listening skills and good observational skills;
- Ability to effectively resolve problems and deal with conflict or difficult situations with children and adults;
- Tact, diplomacy and confidentiality;
- Ability to establish acceptance and trust with child, family & at community level;
- Cross cultural sensitivity, awareness and understanding;

Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
Conditions of employment / job requirements include:
- Early Childhood Level 2 or 3 Certification/Designation and a commitment to maintain and continue education (paid by the employer);
- An acceptable pre-employment criminal records check with vulnerable sector search;
- A valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C certificate;
- Medical health requirements: TB Test, Immunization Record, “Fit for Work” designation from medical doctor;
- Valid Yukon Class 5 Driver’s license, Class 4 is an asset.
