Part-time Maintenance Groundskeeper, Kluane Lake Research Station
The Kluane Lake Research Station (KLRS) has the privilege of being located on the south shore of Lhù'ààn Mân (Kluane Lake), Yukon, in the Traditional Territory of the Kluane First Nation (KFN) and Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN). Research in the region often occurs within the Traditional Territories of KFN, CAFN, and the White River First Nation (WRFN).
KLRS under the Arctic Institute of North America (AINA) is currently seeking a part-time Maintenance Groundskeeper. Reporting to the Field Station Operations Manager, the Maintenance Groundskeeper is responsible for station maintenance and infrastructure improvement at KLRS.
Job Duties: • Perform carpentry and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring all buildings are properly maintained. • Assist with operating and maintaining station utilities, including power, heat, and water. • Improve trails, ramps, and railings to increase safety and accessibility throughout station grounds. • Support daily station operations, including brushing trails, splitting wood, removing recycling/trash, and assisting staff with cleaning as needed.
Qualifications: Required • Experience, education, or training in related fields (carpentry, plumbing, mechanics, northern facility operations). • Valid standard driver’s license (minimum class 5). • Comfortable with performing repairs and maintenance tasks (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, mechanical) using a variety of tools. • Ability to work independently, think critically, and problem solve. • Flexibility to work a non-conventional schedule, which may include weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays. Additional Assets • Red Seal Certification (completed or in progress). • Experience in remote camp settings. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Capacity to adjust work schedule to meet multiple demands and pressures.
Compensation and Schedule: • Duration = Part time over 5 months (May – September 2025). • Wage = $23-30/hour based on experience. • Expected hours per week = 7-21 hours (flexible). • Non-conventional work schedule with fluctuating hours that will vary on an asneeded basis. • The candidate is expected to be located in one of the nearby communities (i.e. Silver City, Burwash Landing, Destruction Bay, or Haines Junction), with the option of residing on station when working consecutive days.
