The One-on-One Supported Worker will report to Head Teacher with oversight provided by the school Executive Director.
Job Overview
One-on-One Supported Worker helps to deliver developmentally appropriate support within our educational program; they play a vital role in our classroom.
A One-on-One Supported Worker (SW) and the teacher(s) are a team. The SW is assigned to meet the needs of a specific student. The teacher is ultimately responsible for the education of all students in the class and the SW serves as a support. The success of this position is measured by the progress made related to the IPP goals.
The SW’s efforts are in promoting the goals by embedding strategies and developmentally appropriate programming into the daily schedule in the classroom each day.

Responsibilities and Duties
- provide daily and ongoing support of the student
- carry out behavior modification, personal development, and other therapeutic programs under supervision of professionals such as Occupational Therapist or speech-language pathologists
- assist student with appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication
- support the development and empowerment of the student
- understand and be sensitive to the obstacles facing the child in your care
- recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners
- accompany and supervise students during activities in the classroom, at recess, and on field trips
- prepare classroom sensory tools (from options provided) to compliment programming
- advocate for student’s needs
- assist student with Montessori lessons under the direction of the classroom teacher(s)
Qualifications & Requirements
- experience with children with a variety of physical and intellectual differences and behavioral or other learning difficulties
- a broad knowledge of child development as well as some teaching experience
- good interpersonal and communication skills are essential
