Qualifications:
Extensive post-secondary training in public administration, First Nations governance, program implementation and evaluation, or a related field; experience with change-management organizational initiatives; considerable experience working within the context of a First Nation government; experience developing, implementing, and evaluating programming related to First Nations culture, heritage, education, and/or language; experience providing strategic direction and visionary leadership in a related field; experience managing significant programming and budgets; experience seeking out and securing external resources to aid in achieving strategic goals; knowledge and understanding of the fields of language and culture revitalization, and education, as well as extensive experience in one or more of these areas such as language programming, pre-school, k-twelve or post-secondary education.
Scope:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Education leads all aspects of the management of the Education Division including: strategic and work planning (including change-management during this time of reorganization), human resources leadership, financial management, legislative and policy development, and program development, evaluation and administration in the following areas:
- Northern Tutchone language revitalization and integration in the community and throughout the Government;
- Early childhood development and Language;
- K-twelve education and Language;
- Post-secondary education support services; and
- Culture programming, including its effective integration within all levels of education programming within a life-long learning framework;
- Recreation.
As a leader among the management team, the Director is responsible for contributing to the strategic planning exercises of the Government, and bringing to those sessions a comprehensive understanding of the community and stakeholders/partners in the areas of language, culture, heritage and education at all levels. It is her/his responsibility to migrate these broad strategic objectives into management work plans and communicate these effectively to staff and to partners. On occasion this may require negotiation of agreements with partners to ensure objectives are realized through external bodies.
