Your Role
Reporting to the manager, Natural Resources, the Environmental and Heritage Coordinator, is responsible for overseeing and meeting technical requirements associated with the LNR Department, and Fire Crew contract obligations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage, administer and supervise the Firesmart program, maintaining its budget and contract reporting requirements
  • Represent GCTFN in Forest Resource Management Plan implementation
  • Prepare records and reports such as progress reports, briefing notes and project schedules. May present these reports to the Land Management Board at request of Natural Resources Manager.
  • Conducting joint environmental assessment reviews and or inspections on proposed land dispositions from other governments, proposals and consultations.
  • Setting up and following a weekly/seasonal work schedule, approved by the Natural Resource Manager while responsibly and timely implementing tasks presented therein
  • Assist in development of policy regarding wildlife, environmental and ecological legislation
  • Environmental compliance monitoring, site inspections, wildlife observations, wildlife complaints, nuisance reports, and or dog program issues
  • Ensure that complaints, incidents, or wildlife reports which require senior administrative attention are immediately reported to the Natural Resource Manager, Office Administrator or the affected C/TFN department
  • Develops, implements and evaluates environmental monitoring programs, in conjunction with the Natural Resource Manager
  • Provides support for field research activities carried out by the Environmental Monitors and contractors for C/TFN. May include desktop and field research for development projects, land applications, and gathering and recording data
  • Participates in daily/weekly briefings with the Natural Resource Manager or her/his designee to review the work plans and goals for the day
  • Immediately communicates schedule changes to the Natural Resource Manager.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates safety procedures with ongoing duties and programs
  • Maintains record of use of all equipment, vehicles, and their maintenance
  • Work with and mentor the Environmental Technicians

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Renewable Resources, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences or related fields or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum two years government or field experience (for example, Conservation Officer, Park Ranger/warden) may be considered.
  • Prior experience supervising field staff will be considered an asset.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability

  • Experience supervising field staff will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in enforcement, note taking and legislation compliance is an asset.
  • A Valid Drivers Licence is Mandatory. Certifications in ATV, Snow-machine, Pleasure Craft/ Boat Operators card, and PAL is mandatory, under certain circumstances Pleasure Craft, ATV & Boat Certificates can be obtained in 3-6 months of hire, acknowledging the seasons and ability to obtain.
  • Experience in enforcement, note taking and legislation compliance.
  • Knowledge of Yukon First Nation Final Agreements.
  • Knowledge of C/TFN history, culture, demographics, goals and aspirations.
  • Conflict resolution skills are an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management, organization and prioritizing skills.
  • Ability to arrange, set up, coordinate and facilitate various workshops.
  • Strong computer skills including, Word Processing, Spreadsheets (data entry and processing), email, GPS, Internet use and knowledge, databases, and or Google Earth and related governments map-viewer programs.
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines and to problem solve.
  • Ability to relate to issues and remain tactful in stressful situations and respond to enquiries professionally.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations, difficult people, behaviour and stressful deadlines.
