Job Summary:
Reporting to the Health Promotions Manager, this position is responsible for providing assistance and care to Elders and the disabled in need in order to allow clients to live in an independent and dignified manner in their own homes. This includes performing light housekeeping, laundry services and providing support. The position maintains daily activity records and submits monthly reports.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides assistance and care to Elders and the disabled in need in order to allow clients to live in an independent and dignified manner in their own homes, by:
- Assisting Elders and the disabled with light housekeeping and laundry services;
- Providing companionship and friendly, non-judgmental support and assistance to Elders and disabled clients;
- Providing interpretation services on behalf of Elders with community resource workers and/or agencies;
- Providing transportation around the community – errands;
- Supervise spring cleaning to Elders.
Education & Experience:
- Grade 12 or equivalency combined with Home Care Training Certification
- Knowledge of Tlingit traditions and heritage
- Knowledge of the TTC’s history, culture, demographics, goals and aspirations
- Minimum of two years’ experience providing similar services for First Nation clientele
- General knowledge of the health and social issues specific to First Nations
- Mandatory requirement to maintain strict confidentiality
- Criminal Records Check
- Valid Class 5 Yukon Driver’s License
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification, or willingness to acquire within six months from the date of hire
- Ability to demonstrate and maintain a healthy, self-sufficient lifestyle.
