Medical Transport Driver

Job Summary
Reporting to the Health and Social Director, the Medical Transport Driver will be responsible for performing daily tasks that will support the Health Department, programs, and services. Duties will mainly focus on Medical Transportation for Liard First Nation (referred as “LFN”) Members, as well as additional administrative tasks. The ideal candidate possesses a class 4 driver’s license with a clean driving abstract, has outstanding customer service skills and is a team player.
Main Duties

  • Assist clients with determining what transport option to use.
  • Transport (drive) LFN members to and from medical appointments and medications as required.
  • Communicate all medical transport needs, booked appointments, etc., with clients and the health department.
  • Observe, record, report and tend to all maintenance and repair needs of the LFN Medical Transport vehicle. This includes keeping the vehicle clean for client transport and maintaining an accurate travel log.
  • Perform various administrative tasks to support the health team.
  • Assist with organizing Health events as required. This may include shopping for supplies, booking caterers, coordinating registration, set-up, take-down, etc.
  • Perform data entry, photocopying and faxing as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Graduate and related Post-Secondary training in an area of Health and/or Administration will be preferred.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 4. Clean drivers abstract.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and to work in an environment that applies cross-training within other Departments.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to maintain Confidentiality and abide by LFN Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge, respect and understanding of LFN culture, traditions and language are considered an asset.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, relationship-building skills are required, as well as strong verbal and written communications. Ability to work pleasantly and effectively with a wide range of people of different ages and cultures, in potentially volatile and emotionally charged situations. Ability to work respectfully with others in a cross-cultural environment. Knowledge of Liard First Nation history, culture, traditional territory, and demographics. Tact, intuition and diplomacy, strong work ethics and good judgment and ability to work well in a team environment.
Decision Making
This position is responsible to the Health and Social Director and to Liard First Nation Members. The incumbent works independently and takes initiative within established policies, procedures, objectives, and priorities. Decision-making is required for the day-to-day operations, for developing procedures where none exist, and setting work priorities.
Impact/Accountability
This position is accountable for compliance with legislation, establishing and meeting project work plans, ensuring expenditures adhere to the terms and conditions of funding agreements and do not exceed budget and revenues, and enforcing standard operational policies and procedures.
Working Conditions
This position may be required to travel in and out of territory and respond to potential incidents outside of work hours. Some overtime and weekend work may be required. This position may work outside in the elements.
