Do you live in Whitehorse? Do you have MATH skills? Do you have room in your life to tutor a kid or two or maybe even three? LDAYukon is looking for MATH tutors for in-person tutoring on a casual basis. Students are often in grade four or five or even six and seven, however they may have math gaps which require extra attention. Flexibility in teaching to a student's learning styles is always a helpful skill. A positive and affirming approach usually works best. Often tutoring starts with homework help and through that progresses to addressing gaps and building confidence. Quite frequently material needs to be revisited before it becomes working knowledge.
Tutoring usually happens between 3:15 and 6pm weekdays, though families may request and arrange a different time. Tutoring can happen on weekends if that is possible for both parties. Tutoring sessions are most often one hour in duration though they may be shorter if attention span is short. There is a sliding scale of pay starting at $33.00 an hour. Individuals with teaching degrees are especially encouraged to apply and fees are higher for these individuals.
