Mechanical Insulator

Wildstone is a General Contractor currently recruiting for a Mechanical Insulator based in Whitehorse, YT.

Here’s what you can expect to be working on – Water Treatment Plants, Energy projects, new multi-family builds, commercial builds. Systems include: plumbing, cold water and drain lines; ventilation and exhaust; hot water systems and equipment, and air conditioning systems. If you bring this type of knowledge and experience to the table, we want to hear from you.
These are your day-to-day tasks:

  • Read blueprints and determine the appropriate amounts and types of insulation (in sheet, tubular, or roll form), such as fiberglass, foam rubber, Styrofoam, cork, or urethane, considering factors such as location, surface shape, and equipment use.
  • Measure and cut insulation to size and shape, and apply to exposed surfaces and structures, such as air ducts, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks, and any other mechanical equipment.
  • Fit/wrap/attach insulation material to obstructions and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
  • Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage.
  • Apply, remove, and repair insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems.
  • Cover or seal insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to structure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the role:

  • A Journeyperson certificate in insulation or equivalent experience with commercial and industrial insulation.
  • You have experience working with various insulation materials and follow the standard practices and methods of application, including use of adhesives.
  • You’re familiar with caulking techniques for sealing joints.
  • You’re able to use tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, and a calking gun.
  • You’re dependable and you’re a self-starter – you show up to work on time and get the job done.
  • You work hard to build and maintain successful work relationships.
  • Safety is not an afterthought – you have a history of working safely and looking out for the safety of the crew on site.
