Qualifications:
Completion of grade 12 and post-secondary training in required skills with preference given to those holding a certificate or diploma in Geomatics/GIS systems; Ability to manage digital spatial data; Ability to design and produce digital maps and to manage plot files; Ability to install GIS, CAD, and computer mapping software and hardware, and perform daily backups; Experience and knowledge of the Northern Tutchone culture and values; Ability to speak with and work cooperatively with First Nation elders.
Standard First Aid; Valid Drone Pilot Operations Certificate; Class 5 driver’s license.
Main Duties: Reporting to the Lands Manager, this position is responsible for the production of land registry and resource mapping for the use of the LSCFN department of Land and Resources. The position will be responsible for:
- Using a community-based approach to collect and display mapping information that integrates traditional knowledge, practices and values with current information (including historic sites, mining interests, forest resources, oil & gas interests, SMA, TT, site applications).
- Designing and produce new map products using cartographic design and a variety of computer hardware and software tools to create the map.
- Creating maps for land applications, interests, concerns related to the land and resources of the LSCFN Settlement
Lands, Traditional Territory, and adjacent Crown lands. - Identifying, creating, and collecting digital mapping data by inputting map, image, and textual information.
- Editing and updating existing digital information.
- Maintaining the spatial data index.
- Using a variety of computer hardware and software tools including analytical and desktop GIS, CAD, database management and statistical tools.
- Ensuring map products conform to RRGIS standards.
- Creating back-ups of all land registry and mapping data.
- Creating and maintaining the metadata catalogue for all maps.
- Sorting and organizing all maps so they are accessible.
- Assisting in necessary research programs.
- Designing data collection forms, entering data into appropriate computer formats, creating and modifying computer files, running programs for analysis and summaries, produce tables, listings and graphs.
- Summarizing and writing file reports.
- maintenance and QA/QC for department databases, including site specifics, current mining development, water quality and environmental data
