HR Director

Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for facilitating the effective use of human resources to achieve the organizational goals and objectives of Selkirk First Nation. Advises and provides recommendations to the Executive Director on organizational and HR issues. This position works closely with all Directors by assisting with planning and evaluation of the organization’s Human Resource requirements and provides technical assistance to SFN management, interprets and ensures compliance with the HR manual and guidelines and applicable Federal legislation. The position develops and maintains job descriptions and classification, employee recruitment and retention programs, assists with the selection of job candidates, facilitates employee professional development, and develops and administers other relevant Human Resource programs as they become necessary. The position is also responsible for directing and managing the provision of computer support to the Selkirk First Nation government. The ideal candidate builds trust through credibility and strong relationship-building, and provides influence and insight to positively impact the organization.
Education/Experience
University degree or college diploma in Human Resource Management and three to four years working in a senior position in Human Resources (preferably First Nation); or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
• Knowledge of Canadian Human Rights Legislation and Canada Labour Code
• Experience with or knowledge of general principles, theories and practice of employee relations, personnel, human resource management, job classification and recruitment and selection.
• Experience in a leadership role, leading, planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating human, financial and material resources.
• Experience with conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation, including meeting critical deadlines.
Skills
• Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures, in alignment with federal legislation.
• Ability to positively motivate and supervise others.
• Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving aptitude.
• Ability to research, analyze and synthesize a wide variety of documents and information.
• Experience using MS Office and associated HR management software.
• Effective communication skills, including the ability to provide advice and guidance to others.
