Geological Technician

Yukon Metals (YMC) is a junior exploration company with 17 projects throughout the southern Yukon. YMC explores for gold, silver, tungsten, and copper projects at an early stage. Job Title: Geological Technician Contract: June-September 2025
The Geological Technician plays an important role in supporting mineral exploration by processing drill core and conducting field sampling. Reporting to the Lead Geologist, you will learn how to prepare samples for laboratory analysis. Field duties involve soil, rock, and stream sediment sampling in various terrain conditions. This is a seasonal contract position with opportunities for career advancement in a growing company.
Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, participate in weekly and daily safety meetings. Safety and a positive work environment are our team’s priority.
  • Work in a team environment that is inclusive, supportive and team oriented.
  • Be a part of a remote camp environment on a 3 week on and 1 week off schedule. Shared wall tent accommodation.
  • Travel and workdays are paid, food and accommodation is provided. Training is paid.
  • Work with and be supported by the geologist to process, handle, and organize drill core, ensuring accurate labeling and storage.
  • Learn how to take oriented core measurements and assist with logging.
  • Work with the geologist to prepare rock, soil, and sediment samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Learn how to use software for data entry, sample tracking and basic tasks.
  • Assist with field sampling programs in various terrain and weather conditions.
  • Lift and move 50-100lb core boxes and field equipment safely.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures.
  • Experience in mineral exploration or post-secondary diploma or certification courses considered an asset but not required.
  • Must pass pre-employment medical, substance abuse test, criminal records check and provide a driver’s abstract.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Physical fitness and ability to work in remote environments. Ability to work outdoors and in physically demanding conditions.
  • Skilled or willing to learn Microsoft Office Word and Excel and Adobe pdf.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures.
  • Experience in mineral exploration or post-secondary diploma or certification courses considered an asset but not required.
  • Must pass pre-employment medical, substance abuse test, criminal records check and provide a driver’s abstract.
