Job Summary
The Financial Services Officer – Indigenous Women Entrepreneurship (IWE) is accountable to coordinate the client application process, including understanding the needs of prospective clients and how they fit within DNV and other programs, ensuring the application process is accurately completed and maintaining relationships with clients post approval to ensure all reporting requirements are met.
Major Accountabilities
Application Process (35%)
Pre-approval
- Meets with prospective clients to discuss and understand their goals, objectives and needs and determine initial fit for an application.
- Provide quality delivery and administration of the Indigenous Women Entrepreneur (IWE) program.
- Be the point of contact and support for the Indigenous Women Entrepreneurs.
- Answers inquiries prospective clients may have, clarifies the Indigenous Women Entrepreneurship (IWE) program, and discusses program requirements.
- Research information to follow up with prospective clients inquires and escalates high level questions to the Manager, Financial Services
- Works with prospective clients to develop and fully understand the parameters around applications
- Meets with clients after funding for follow-up to monitor and administer the contribution agreement. This includes:
- Completing payment files
- Conducting annual report reviews
- Conducting annual site visits
Processing Applications
- Works closely with applicant to gather necessary data and information via interviews, emails, and phone calls.
- Clarifies data and information within applications to ensure they are accurate and compliant with policy and regulations
- Escalates areas requiring further discussion or attention to the Manager, Financial Services
- Makes recommendations regarding the approval or rejection of applications based on policies of DNV and various programs
Loan Processing/Lending (15%)
- Works with clients to receive the necessary information to develop plans and financial projections to best facilitate the client’s idea
- Processes loan applications and presents to appropriate level of management for approval (Financial Services Manager, General Manager, Board of Directors)
- Prepares legal documents, registrations for security and other required forms and documentation required for loan processing and lending
- Works closely with insurance providers to ensure necessary requirements are in place
- Confirms registrations and disburses funds
- Collaborates and works with outside service providers and industry partners to align programming for specific applications
Workshop Facilitation (20%)
Learning Network:
- Assess and assist with IWE client needs for training and workshops and peer to peer learning opportunities such as small group learning circles, regional conferences, webinars, etc.
- Network and build relationships within the region.
- Deliver training and workshops to Indigenous women.
Presentations, Promotion and Travel (20%)
- Conducts community visits and presents DNV’s products and services
- Meets with and presents materials to various centers of influence (local Chamber offices, Chief and Councils, Yukon Government) and citizens in communities throughout Yukon
- Attendance local and regional trade shows and conferences as required and provide presentations as requested
- Maintains relationships between our funding partners, centers of Influence in the community and Federal agencies to promote DNV’s mandate
Reporting / Administration (10%)
- Uses knowledge of various programs offered to align the best approach for a client or prospective client; this involves research, analysis and recommending the best approach for action
- Ensures clients are reporting the necessary information in compliance with program requirements
- Compiles data and contributes to the development of reports for various external agencies
- Supports the development of Board reports by providing the necessary information and data
- Ensures databases, client information and details, various forms and templates are up to date to support the success of DNV

- Communication and Relationship Building: Communication with internal staff is generally across multiple levels of the organization and varying degrees of contact with external personnel (i.e. local Chamber offices, First Nations Development Corporations, Yukon Government, etc.)

- Organization: Able to prioritize workload to achieve deadlines, targets and results, and able set the priority of others
- Independence: As results are typically defined and existing practices are used as guidelines to determine specific work methods. Carries out work activities independently; supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems.
Key Requirements
- A Bachelor`s Degree in Business with a focus in Finance from a recognized educational institute and 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in a related field. An equivalent of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience within a lending environment and understanding of lending and financial principles, projection analysis, regulations, and legislation within the province of Yukon.
- Experience with client / case management and program management
- Knowledge and experience of sound communications skills to communicate with clients and deliver presentations.
- Experience with computer programs, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
- Preference will be given to Indigenous Women.
