Electronics Technician/Technologist

Northern Avcom is a Whitehorse based company specializing in the installation, repair, maintenance, and integration of communications and industrial electronics. We are currently seeking an Electronics/Electrical Technologist/Technician or equivalent background and experience. Applicants will be, among other things, trained over a 6-month period to have the ability to program, test & service consumer radio equipment.
Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Graduate of an Electronic/Electrical Technology/Technician program or
    equivalent experience.
  • Must have a Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean Driver's Abstract which is periodically checked by third parties (insurers).
  • Effective troubleshooting skills, ability to think outside the box.
  • Ability to repair customer equipment by replacing defective components through standard troubleshooting procedures and practice.
  • Self motivated but must be able to work in a collaborative problem-solving team environment.
  • Good interpersonal skills and strong verbal & written communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately document procedures, projects, and systems.
  • Ability to travel to project sites throughout the Yukon Territory to maintain, install and repair radios in vehicles, heavy equipment, buildings, mountaintops, etc.

Additional Desired knowledge, skills and suitability:

  • Reliable with a positive attitude
  • Experience preferred but we are willing to train on-the-job.
  • Physically capable of performing manual labour duties, with outdoor work in all seasons.
  • Experience with Land Mobile Radio installations and maintenance
  • Experience with computer programming languages

Work Expectations after Training:

  • Be able to provide technical support for, and service, VHF analog and digital radio systems
  • Utilize various equipment to analyze and optimize electronics equipment and use resulting measurements to evaluate and troubleshoot.
  • Contact radio users to schedule maintenance trips to various communities throughout the Yukon.
  • Manage inventory levels and order parts in anticipation of expected future usage.
  • Help keep the work vehicles and maintenance shop clean and organized.
