Job Summary:
Are you a high school student looking for a great first job? This position is to support parents with their children in the drop-in program during Friday & Saturday evenings. The parents helper is not responsible for the child but is there for support. This often includes engaging children in crafts and activities that are provided in our space.
When there are no parents with children to support, the Parent’s Helper supports the drop-in team. This may include spot cleaning the drop-in space, supporting with special events during drop-in, and connecting with service users.
The Parent’s Helper maintains a safe and respectful environment, performs moderate housekeeping and refers the public to VFWC staff.
This position will be supervised by the Drop-In Coordinator. This position requires the physical ability to lift 20 pounds, to go up and down a set of stairs, and to stand for a minimum of 2 hours.
Knowledge & Experience:
- Experience babysitting or caring for younger children in home, school, or community settings- Ability to engage children in safe, age-appropriate play and activities- Experience helping plan or lead simple crafts, games, or creative activities- Understanding of how to create a welcoming and inclusive space for children and families- Ability to support positive behavior using patience and respectful communication- Comfortable working around families from diverse backgrounds and experiences- Basic cleaning and tidying skills to help maintain a safe and organized space- Ability to follow staff direction and ask for help when needed- Awareness of personal boundaries and when to refer concerns to staff
