The Opportunity:
Solvest is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director, People and Culture to lead the People Department!
As the Director of People and Culture, you'll be our strategic partner in shaping the essence of our organization. Reporting directly to our CEO, you'll oversee our People Department, and its critical functions such as talent acquisition and retention, employee relations, compliance, policy implementation, HR systems, benefits, compensation strategies, workplace safety, and fostering a culture of employee well-being.

This is an office-based position that will require the successful candidate to work from our head office located in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Employment Status: Permanent Full Time – 40 hours per week
Wage Range: $105,000 - $125,000 per year (based on experience) + annual profit-sharing bonus based on company performance.
Leave Entitlement: Four weeks of paid vacation to start (20 days) + 5 paid sick days per year.

Job Description (high level summary - not inclusive of all duties):

  • Collaborate with the CEO to design and implement people standards for the company which support the company culture outlined in the Strategic Objective and are in alignment with the company values.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the People Department, ensuring the team is properly supported and successfully strengthening the company’s People Strategy.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align HR strategies with business goals. Develop and execute comprehensive HR plans that support workforce planning, talent acquisition, people development and overall organizational effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain People policies that align with the company’s vision and People Strategy.
  • Support the CEO in the development of strategies to achieve the +10 KSI metrics related to Employee Satisfaction and Company Culture as well as Company Reputation.
  • Identify wage subsidy programs and develop relationships with all stakeholders to ensure the company maximizes wage subsidies and fulfills program needs.
  • Utilize HR data and metrics to measure and analyze the effectiveness of HR programs and initiatives.
  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding process by infusing the company’s core values into each stage of the process.
  • Manage the company extended health policy by staying appraised of the various options available for health benefit programs to ensure the company is providing the best value to employees.
  • Manage the annual People Department budget.

Required Skills/Qualification:

  • Progressive and diverse experience in the human resources field, including experience in a leadership/management role and the private sector.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge across all general areas of HR, including Organizational Design, Workforce Planning, Diversity and Inclusion, Employee Experience, Talent and Performance Management, Employee Relations, and Employment Law.
  • High EQ.
  • Experience managing a divisional budget.
  • Knowledge of current HR service delivery models, structures, and best practices.
  • Experience with compensation practices and requirements.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills as well as strong writing skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills. Ability to build effective business relationships at all levels across the organization as well as outside of the organization.
  • Proven ability to work and lead within cross-functional teams.
  • Growth mindset and a desire to contribute.
  • Experience managing HRIS platforms and ERP’s; experience with UKG and Acumatica is an asset.
  • Well versed with technology and platforms such as Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Enthusiastic towards the environment, green energy, and the position.
