About the Position:
You will be employed as a Unit Crew Supervisor for Yukon First Nations Wildfire (YFNW) and will report directly to the Operations Manager. Unit Crew Supervisors are expected to focus on positive leadership methods and be well organized. Candidates should have a professional, team-building mentality and be able to work with a diverse range of people of varying backgrounds and experience levels.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead a 20-person unit to complete tasks and accomplish goals on wildfire incidents, during training exercises and at the fire base.
- Maintain a high level of physical fitness to be prepared for sustained action on wildfire incidents and ensures that all other Unit Crew personnel do the same.
- Arrive at work on time prepared for work.
- Act professionally and respectfully while on shift and off-hours while working on incidents. You are an ambassador for YFNW.
- Complete necessary paperwork in the form of daily timesheets, incident reports, after action review forms and others as needed.
- Assist with, and deliver, training modules and courses for members of the Unit Crew.
- Deliver daily briefings to Unit Crew personnel including weather information, situation report and daily task assignments.
- Ensure OHS safety processes are being met and followed.
- Expected to wear the appropriate uniform while on shift.
- Expected to ensure their squad’s assigned vehicle and equipment are clean and serviceable daily.
- Expected to maintain a running inventory, with Assets & Logistics Manager, of equipment and gear that has been signed out both on fire incidents and while at the fire base.
- Maintain communication with Crew Leaders and Crew Members using a handheld radio while on fire incidents and while at the fire base.
- Other duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities when on a Fire:
Perform management tasks including, but not limited to:
- Remote power water pump set up and operation,
- Construction of control lines around perimeter of fire area using power saws, power pumps, hose, backpack pumps, and hand tools,
- Hot spotting operations using power saws, power pumps, hose, backpack pumps, and hand tools,
- Ignition operations in direct and indirect attack settings using ignitions devices such as fuses and drip torches
- Demonstrates an aptitude for leadership, organization, supervision, and communication.
Qualifications:
- S-230 Training or Equivalent.
- ICS I-100 certification
- ICS I-200 course recommended.
- Has obtained applicable leadership courses (L-280, L-380, etc.)
- Understands the FBP system (Fire Behavior Prediction)
- Minimum WFX-fitness standard (14:30)
Skills and Experience:
- A minimum education level that provides the skills to read, write and comprehend wildfire knowledge, and can understand written instructions.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must meet and maintain the WFX-Fitness standards
Compensation:
Starting at $39.82 per hour based on experience.
