Carpenter Apprentice - 1st Year (NOC 72310)

We are currently recruiting for a 1st year Carpenter Apprentice local to the Whitehorse area, regular 40 hours per week (OT may be required). Reporting to Site Superintendent, the successful candidate will be a team player, exemplify our Core Values, and have a strong commitment to site safety.
NOTE: This position is available to applicants legally entitled to work in Canada. Applicants not authorized to work in Canada will not be considered for the position.

  • Entry-level, permanent, full-time

Education:

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or higher
  • Registered Apprentice

Responsibilities include the following tasks:

  • Assist journeyperson carpenter in measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling, and joining wood and other building materials.
  • Help with layout, preparation, and assembly of building components such as walls, floors, and roof systems.
  • Use and maintain hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machines safely and effectively.
  • Assist in building, installing, and repairing structures made of wood, wood substitutes, and other materials.
  • Follow blueprints and building plans under supervision to support construction tasks.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment in accordance with company safety policies.
  • Perform related carpentry tasks as directed by a journeyperson carpenter.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Adhere to site housekeeping practices
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 6 months to 1 year experience on a construction site in a similar role
  • Experience in carpentry
  • Familiarity with hand tools
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Commercial experience an asset
  • On-the-job training and mentorship provided
  • Valid certifications or willingness to obtain certifications in WHMIS 2015, Electrical Safety and Level 1 First Aid
