Yukon Association for Community Living

For more than 54 years, the Yukon Association for Community Living (YACL) has been advocating for individuals with intellectual disabilities in the Yukon and their families. Along with our national affiliate the Canadian Association for Community Living and other provincial, territorial and regional ACL’s, we have changed for the better the lives of literally tens of thousands of individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families as we have worked together to almost entirely eliminate large-scale institutional care as the preferred model for support, and in the Yukon we continue to advocate for inclusion within education, employment, health care and community services. The concept of inclusion is one of the founding principles of the Yukon Association for Community Living; the idea that people shouldn’t necessarily be grouped or segregated in housing, employment or recreational activities simply because of their disability but should have opportunities to experience, learn from and contribute to as many activities as is possible as individual citizens within a larger community.  We hope that you feel, as we do, that the variety of programs and services that the Yukon Association for Community Living supports demonstrate our ongoing commitment to that goal.
