JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for facilitating compliance with occupational health and safety (OSH) regulations. This position will provide advice and coordinate worksite inspections, prepare reports, ensure day-to-day safety requirements for all GC/TFN buildings and worksites.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards, to ensure compliance
  • Provide support to all Departments by conducting building safety audits, performing site visits in the field as applicable
  • Develop a Safety Management Plan (SMP) for each C/TFN building to ensure a safe work
  • Participate and assist the Health and Safety Committee in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions where necessary
  • Audit, annually, the SMP for compliance and update as required
  • Review and provide recommendations on other health and safety related policies and
  • Ensure that all incidents are reported immediately
  • Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and completed
  • Ensure new hires are orientated to GC/TFN health and safety plans and policy, project hazard assessment, location of first aid, as applicable
  • Ensure that the following material is available and on-site as required: C/TFN H&S Manual, the applicable provincial legislation and regulations, site safety inspection forms, observation forms, tailboards and log books, fall protection plans etc
  • Prepare and submit all federal reports
  • Meet with and assist staff to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met
  • Attend and provide support to the Health & Safety Committee, including scheduling and

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Include the month and year you started and ended a job when you list your work experience. This allows us to accurately calculate the length of time you were in the position.)

  • Occupational Health and Safety Accreditation (degree, diploma, certificate or equivalent)
  • 3 years of Health and Safety experience preferred
